Hypertension VA Claims

Hypertension (high blood pressure) is rated under Diagnostic Code 7101 at 10%, 20%, 40%, or 60% based on diastolic and systolic blood pressure readings. The rating is determined by the average of multiple consistent readings — a single elevated reading is not sufficient for a higher rating.

Under the PACT Act, hypertension is now a presumptive condition for veterans exposed to Agent Orange (Vietnam-era veterans). If you were denied for hypertension before this change, you may be eligible to refile.
